British WW1 helmet opinions sought

i have seen ww1 brodies before with a red and yellow block,this was to identify regiments or divisions.i would say the later.usually it was an officer who had it painted on.i use to own a highland division with a white circle with a red hd letters painted on top.you could try searching the name in the helmet

I think that a red & yellow rectangle sounds more like a battalion indicator based around regimental colours rather than a divisional insignia, but who knows?

I took some more pictures of it today in natural light and direct sunlight to try to show truer colours. I can't make out any faces or turbaned heads or any other shapes aside from the bar, but I did notice some red flecks I hadn't seen before. They appear to the left and right of the yellow central block, and strangely, also above the rectangle.

One more showing some red and maybe black flecks on either side. It definately looks painted on as opposed to some sort of transfer.

When I first posted, I mistakenly mixed up the name with one in another helmet I once owned. Then name looks to be J. Crawley.

Interestingly (although it proves nothing) the CWGC shows a Pte Jack Crawley of the 1st Canadian Mounted Rifles (Saskatchewan Regiment). Came from Winnipeg died 5 June 1916. Could just add emphasis to trying to discover helmet flashes used by the Canadians.

I'm pretty sure the flash of the 1st CMR is a French grey rectangle topped by a red circle.

The UK National Archives has MICs for 54 J Crawleys.
