Fssf
I went through my lists and it appears as though there never was a Canadian officer by the name of Flint in the FSSF. This includes the overseas draft in October 1943 and the list compiled in Southern France- which BTW includes all reinforcements wounded since the breakout from Rome. The only other thing I can think of is he was an early drop-out of the parachute program at Helena. The name does not ring a bell though and I dont have the time right now to dig that list out.
The patch you have is def made in the wartime process however the overly thin lettering and the style in general was made after the war in the 1950's before the rescindment of the patch in 1957. These are the ones you see in vast numbers on E-Bay which people buy as authentic WW 2 manufacture. Please remember that US patch manufacturers continued to make patches in the thousands after the war. I have the resubmitted artwork for these patches. Some are found glued into patch books released after the war for institutions and collectors. This patch matches those patches exactly. A good rule of thumb is if you see hundreds of mint examples floating around of the same style patch- beware. They actually did not make a lot of FSSF patches during the war. I have the numbers. The real ones are rarer than you think . Most of what you see sold today were made between 1945 - 1957. The Force members after the war acquired these patches as I have examples from vets. Some told me that these were not their original patches but examples sold after the war. I hope to have a book out on this via Service Publications after the one on 1CPB is released.
