With commission it went for just under £10,000!

So it almost doubled in price since 1997, that is amazing. Still a fair price for a unique set with provenance.
Any idea who the buyer is? Des, you didn't accidently win the lottery did you?
      Cheers, Luc

No, its not me who got it (I wish!). Hopefully the new owner will get in touch with me at some stage in the future.

Was this guy British or Belgium?

I ask this because he wears the British medals first. One normally wears the highest of his own country from the left to the right, then the foreign country's based on the french spelling of the country's name. Two from the same country ? Again highest to lowest from left to right.

                  He was 100% Belgian.

I can't find any logic in the wear of (Belgian) medals, ribbons. They should wear them like you said, but...?
I have some WW2 Belgian used Battle-dresses with ribbons, some of them start with the Belgian ribbons, but some start with the foreign ribbons...
A few I have are Belgian SAS BD's where the ribbons are mixed. (Belgian and foreign).

It's the same with the SAS wing, some wear them above the left pocket, some above the right pocket etc....

                    Mounting

I don't think the original owner mounted the medals. It was probably the person who bought the medals in the 90ies who got them mounted by an English firm. They, by force of habit would have started with the English medals, and, particularly, a Belgian soldier would not have them court mounted like that.
