My understanding, which may not be perfect, is that he gave publishers photos from his collection. They then put a book together and put his name on the cover (there's several similar books of his out there). His Roll of Infamy had a bit more work by him in assembling a text from other sources.

All of his book have sucked as well as those from Chris Bishop! Bruce Quarrie and Robin Lumsden are the only ones I thought were well put together in regards to those available to the general public back in the day!
