No, I won't retract it. I'm sure what you say is true with respect to Gallipoli. but equally, it is a fact that I have heard the word ANZAC used many, many times iin contexts where there was no involvement of NZ Troops.

I sincerely believe that the New Zealanders are more cautious about using the word. ANZAC is not a word used if the troops referred to are Kiwi only.

I didn't think you would we can agree to disagree on the subject.
I only ever hear the word "Diggers" used when referring to Au troops and I don't doubt you have heard Anzacs used in the wrong context I hear people say stupid **** they have no clue about all the time they probably don't know what the acronym stands for anyway.
I agree with Bob on the current series it is way to polished everyone looks like they stepped into a mint uniform and boots just before the landing and I think
the sound of the weapons is a joke those Enfield's sound like cap guns not the nice BOOM you get out of one of those things.

I've given up worrying about such things, they're never going to get it right, not in a million years, just look at the "Fury" thread. I've made my peace with poor equipment, story embellishments and limited budgets (Australian Broadcasting).

I did like the switching between the front line, the Officers on the beach and on board the Ship. How accurate that was would require some re-reading. However, the program is having trouble relaying the scale of the battle, probably because of budget constraints. And I'm not looking forward to this bullsh#t love affair crap that's about to be unleashed on the viewers.

When all is said and done, I watched via downloading the episode, so I didn't have to suffer the 90 ads that interrupted the programs flow.


I doubt this program will go down in history, but I hope it leads to something decent finally being done on the Western Front--- I just have to believe it will be so, it's all I have!!! Lol

Most of NZ now live here, you can't throw a rock in this country without hitting a Kiwi. You can keep your league and Rugby too, Australia doesn't need to dominate in everything.


Another Gallipoli film, I'd prefer something based on the Western Front in 1918, when the Anzacs led the offensive. Or at least the battle of Hamel, where Monash led the Australian Corps with success and minimal casualties.

I read your comments on YouTube, and you're dead right, the Turkish people I met were unbelievably welcoming.

I'll watch the second episode of Gallipoli in the next few days, so we'll find out if it improves.

Last I heard Brisbane Airport was overflowing with Kiwis. I fear once they understand the meaning of this sign, South-east Queensland may be overrun.

I watched the 43 minute episode two.

We're all familiar with the general negatives when it comes to programs like this, so there is no point in harping on about them. However, I must mention the lack of presence, the sense of scale of the battle. The program doesn't have the claustrophobic feel of the 1981 film Gallipoli.

So to the positives

The trench line visuals did help you gauge the combatants proximity to each other. Sometimes it can be hard to imagine. The trench fighting scenes had some bite as well. Perfect? No, but better than expected.

The burial truce had its own grim moments too, the prosthetics weren't bad.

Although, the best feature yet again was the interplay between the Command on ship, and on shore.

The program is so far an improvement (certainly more graphic) on the recent German production about the Eastern Front.

New Zealand (pronounced Noo Zuland) had to be the last in line to receive that horrendous accent. That's being a bit harsh, make that second last in line... without a doubt, South Africa's is freaking worse!

Everything is a bit worse in South Africa Don't say I never stick up for NZ.
