I guess Star Wars was lacking in a bit of realism too but no one complained.

As for all the desenters.....all of your taste is in your socks!

This comment made me chuckle ! " I guess Star Wars was lacking in a bit of realism too but no one complained. "

    That's because it wasn't real !!

WW2 happened and was real, it was not make believe like Star Wars !!

Actually Star Wars was real just happened a long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.

        Hi,

what I'm missing is a sound statement about the 'pop corn' consumption !

Comparing WWII events, uniforms, behavior, etc, which we can compare to historical record and Star Wars a made up cheezy kiddy space film? Sorry, no analogy there

I saw it when it came out, and saw it again last night at home. My opinion is still the same: It is a well made, well shot film. Very accurately costumed, etc., and could have been a real good fictional war movie. It is really let down by the plot, some of the acting and that ridiculous last battle seen. Its a shame really, to get the details right in costuming, weapons, get a real Tiger, a real Sherman and all for that script! Could have been great.........but it's far from it.

Two great scenes. Room where local NSDAP party leaders and their wiwes have committed suecide. Very good dialog there.
That Tiger tank was awesome. Tank knocked out. Two escaped panzerman shot and one starts shooting sherman with his luger.

Why were all those Shermans build, 27,000 alone in the tank plant in Sterling Heights, MI? Why building one B-24 bomber every hour at the Willow Run plant? Why all this effort and energy spend when Hollywood now shows with the authority of Brad Pitt that one tank crew is enough to kill 500 Germans? Why did it take that long to win if the German soldiers were all that dumb?
I wonder why not just send the Detroit fire department to make an end to those goofy Germans.

I wonder what was the deeper thinking behind last scene. Does this great nation really need this pathetic and over the top "moral boost"? If so, the rest of the world is laughing about it!

Hard to be a wild west Indian in a world full of Gary cooper cowboys Dietrich,

However, in all fairness to the USA they have had their moments where they have achieved exactly what this film set out to show as this 101% account below proves'

" At some point, Lieutenant Murphy left his position, taking the portable wire-connected telephone with him, and climbed on the burning tank destroyer. Doing this made it tougher for him to be spotted because of flames and smoke. It also gave him access to its .50 caliber machine. From his new position, Murphy continued to adjust artillery fire while he fired the machine gun between between transmissions.

Eventually the field telephone stopped working when its line was probably cut or destroyed. Although exhausted and nearing his physical limits, Lieutenant Murphy continued firing and reloading belted ammunition from the .50 caliber machine gun at the advancing dismounted Germany infantry. Eyewitness accounts estimated that Germans managed to get as close as 10 yards of Murphy's position. Fortunately, the Germans were having a difficult time locating the source of the murderous fire being poured on them.

While he stood on it, Lieutenant Murphy's tank destroyer took at least one and probably two direct hits from 88 millimeter German shells. Amazingly, he was never more than only briefly stunned by their explosions although the force of one reopened a shrapnel wound he received the previous day in a mortar barrage. Regardless, Murphy managed to continue engaging the advancing infantry killing or wounding scores of German soldiers.

After nearly an hour of fierce fighting with an estimate of at least 50 Germans infantry dead, many others wounded and several German tanks destroyed, the remaining German tanks began to withdraw.

As Germans forces retreated with heavy casualties, Lieutenant Murphy only then dismounted the still-burning tank destroyer and rejoined his men, refusing medical aid, and began organizing a counter-attack. Even though the tank destroyer was heavily loaded with unfired ammunition and gasoline, it miraculously never exploded until just after Murphy climbed down from it."

Indeed! Brad Pitt should be awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. I am sure Hollyweird will be more than willing to host yet another self-congratulatory T.V. special to honor the occasion!

Nah...that could never have happened...sounds like something hollywood would dream up and jam down our throats as believable.

I hope I don't get hit by this comment but... why is it that in every WW2 Hollywood movie the Germans seems to have zero accuracy or aim? Specially during the anti-tank scene..

It was well made, but it was all the same: the outnumbered Americans get to save the day against a bigger army.
