All I can say is that it was the BEST WWII film I have ever seen! Just my personal opinion. Can't wait to see it again.

He's more qualified than most to say that and hard to argue with a few collectors opinions.

Fury
Hello,
My wife, son (who is 12) and I saw the movie yesterday. We all liked it, however I was not blown away by it. It was a good war movie, but it did not have the same impact on me that a movie like Das Boot had or even Saving Private Ryan did. It was still a good movie and you had to love the brief scene with the Tiger I. I do agree that it had a real basic story, it wasn't real deep.
Great uniforms and the film had nice touches such as the DK in gold, FJ badge and SS officers peak cap stored inside the tank. I guess that was for the benefit of us collectors-just kidding.

I have not seen the movie yet. From what little I do know it is a fictional account about a US tank crew. Will say again...over....entertainment media....fictional movie...US tank crew. For some though it must be more....yes, much more. To pass the gold standard of TR military history into modern film making there must also be the perspective of the other side as well. In other words for a "war" movie to be palatable to some it must also involve more of the "other side." Just how much more is anyone's guess, but from the posts read it could possibly run along these lines....make it about a TIger tank crew....complete with formations marching around the excercise platz at some Kaserne back in Germany...plus a Hans and Sabina romance interlude before going to the front...in other words not unlike a wartime UFA film. Guys, at the end of the day movies are what they are...not history books.Last edited by Edward; 10-18-2014, 11:21 AM.

I watched FURY last night. The battles are very intense, and the special effects are awesome. (I watched the movie in super duper surround sound...ie... XD cinemark theater. As for the portrayal of the accuracy of German anti-tank gunners as not being able to hit the side of a barn was annoying...considering they were in ambush & had time for the first accurate shot. The portrayal of the stereotypical stone faced SS soldiers was annoying too.
Seems that a golden opportunity was LOST by not showing the Tiger 1 panzer crew INSIDE the tank frantically trying to finish off FURY as it did the other shermans. (maybe a directors cut could add this in later) Face it...This is the FIRST WW2 movie showcasing a actual Tiger 1...as such that's what most WW2 historians/ fans of WW2 tanks will remember this movie for. WHY not show what it was like for a Tiger 1 crew buttoned up in fighting mode too? Maybe I missed it but I didn't notice the recoil & residual smoke from the spent rounds or the clanging of empty 76mm casing thrown about in side fury.
As for the last stand battle...in the book Death Traps by Belton Cooper,...he describes a aftermath of a battle in which a lone disabled Sherman slogs it out with a much of German infantry. All ammunition spent, 50 cal, 30 cal, Thompson mg, sidearms & hand grenades to clean off attackers atop the tank. One lone survivor found the next morning. I'm sure some one here can find out more info on this or if this battle was actually a war version of a "urban legend"
Not as good a BOB or SPR for storylines & character building. But WELL worth seeing IMOLast edited by PEVO; 10-18-2014, 11:30 AM.

And besides, I would give little credence to his opinion in general based on his history.

PS... I'm just jesting... although it was to dark to see much... this movie needs a massive re-edit.
