Its the reason I gave up putting in Ads... When i got to talking to a Vet who had stuff to sell, i usually ended up offering more than market for their stuff.

I remember paying double market for an EK2 because I felt sorry for the guy, he thought his medal was really valuable...

In the end I just gave up... figured i would never be a good businessman, I held the Vets in high esteem and it did not go hand in hand.

When I started there was Der alter Oberst lists with only drawings(someone showed some of them some time back they were selling) ZM, peter Hlinkas, and although I still have many of the other books shown, and the old lists....and like freak brother comics I saved them for future reference...but the billantines were the first cheap colored guides...and the 67 saga is also one of my all time favorites that showed many high orders nobody will ever score....(still , its the thrill of the chase (my saga had the cover come off, but I still keep it.). Hobby lobby used to have the early ss collectors books I think I have the one on cufftitles #2.

I hold veterans in very high esteem and my father was a 35 year army man retired an E9 WW2 and Korean war veteran, but most that I bought from only wanted to "see it in print" so this is the book I carried with me. If they wanted more or suggested a price, I paid, but most -especially the widows- just wanted it out of the house period. This was especially true of knives and daggers.

I wore out the last Der Alte Oberst catalog from 1965, but still have it.

A good reference for the time, but obviously, the "fakes" were in good supply at the time.....

I hate to admit it, but my first reference book was a Manion's Guide ... no longer have that one I am afraid, but do have a rather extensive collection of current reference books on the shelves in my office covering a vast number of subjects and periods .... Cheers, Torsten.
