Jiust so you know, the 2 above-captioned publishers are rather intense rivals in the French book publishing industry and as such, it is doubtful that the Histoires & Collections store in Paris will carry Heimdal titles. I am in the precarious position of writing for both companies (magazine articles for Histoires & Collections in Militaria Magazine and books for Heimdal). I did offer the SS book to both publishers, but one of them nearly severed business relations with me, when they discovered I was also writing for the other. It might be that I am the only author writing for both of them simultaneously, but I've suggested to them that there's no reason why I can't contribute to publications of both companies. Me being an outside
(American), it is working, so far.
'SS Prises de la Guerre' will probably not be for sale at the Paris store of
Histoires & Collections.

Good remark Fritz but who said there are no books in Russian, the thing is the Russians are still not as enthusiastic about the subject ( read W-SS Militaria reference books ) as the Americans and Europeans are, lets not forget the SSSR ceased to exist only 20 years ago and furthermore all US loses in WW2 are are not even close to the Soviet loses in the battle of Stalingrad alone, two weeks of fighting for Mamaev Kurgan ( Hill ) took more lives on both German and Soviet side than all US KIA during WW2, i rest my case

I merely wanted to make clear that, following your logic in post 57, the majority of reference books should be in russian language as they (the soviets) had the greatest part in defeating the 3rd reich. - I see though we agree on the latter.



Apart from that, the "english" books are certainly the best available at this stage IMHO. In my field of collecting I can't think of any book that is a good reference book and that was written in another language than english.

I have my copy of this book here coming to me - and it was warmly recommended to me.

Great book and I just picked it up today at the San Jose Show that Ed Anderson helps put on and Im almost 3/4 thur it already, I just cant seem to put it down even to eat dinner.

As to the French edition 'SS Prises de la Guerre', I'm guessing it will be available before Christmas, but the last 2 chapters have still not been
translated and laid-out. I'm guessing some time in November or even
December. The book is already listed on Amazon.com, if you search it by
title or by author and copies can be ordered from there. Also, Casemate Books will be the official stateside distributor for this title, when it becomes
available. Casemate has a mail order catalog and I think some of their titles are in the book chains.
The French publisher (Heimdal) originally wanted to get the book out by June, but it turned out to be a bigger project than anticipated. Their layout guy has re-done the design of evey single page, made some of the images much larger and has done fancy things with the layout, tilting some images on angles, partially overlapping images, etc. So the book will have quite a different look from my version and theoretically, will have a more attractive appearance. This modification of my design however will result in the book being more total pages in size, which was something I was trying to avoid.
Even if the Heimdal version does look better, I suspect the language barrier and the price will make sales in the US limited to French speakers.

Even my self as a German in Germany would write a book in english.
I always prefer english, and the best english accent resideds in the UK ;-) love the slang a lot with a whiskey on the side.

re: delay in filling mail orders for this book

Update on Tuesday, 23 October, 2012.
I was out of town for six days, October 17-22, 2012,
attending the US 2nd Armored Division Reunion in NY
and other events. As such, I've fallen about a week
behind in filling orders. I'll start mailing them today and
should be caught-up by Weds afternoon.
My apologies for the delay.

As to the book itself, I'm rather surprised that nobody has
commented on what I thought would be rather controversial
stories about Oradour or Herr Langanke's comments about
the Ardennes or his treatment after WWII, as a POW. I guess,
to the esoteric audience who buys a book such as this in the
first place, none of this seems very controversial or unusual?
I was expecting some backlash, but so far, all is quiet and I guess
that is a good sign. Thanks to all of you who have purchased
this book.
