After the wall came down there were at least a few hotel buys in the Brandenburg region.

Its ALWAYS interesting to me how the cast of characters reveal themselves in a thread such as this.. I LOOK forward to the book..and enjoyed collaborating with Mike Beaver (RIP) on this and other projects in several visits and foto sessions..FOR ME..If the historical item didnt or could not TALK with the story behind it....IT WOULD BE AS BORING AS COINS AND STAMPS..JMHO Billbert

Amen to all that! The difference between object collectors and historians who also collect objects. It sounds as if some resent the history. How pathetic.

              all things considered

One of the things that has made collecting militaria more interesting for me is to be able to trace a item back to the exact person, area or source it was taken from, it just adds another dimension of history , that said if it has never happened to you you cannot appreciate this , then again maybe this historical part holds no interest for certain collectors? Mark Bando has spent a lifetime searching out these items added a massive photo archive from Beaver and created a great study on the SS . Its certainly a welcome addition .

re: a wealth of resources available on the Internet

Before I even started writing this book I was well-aware of all the
fabulous material that has been and continues to be posted on the Internet. Well, perhaps some day books will become totally obsolete?
Until that day, some of us like to have an actual bound book we can
hold in our hands. If all the Internet sources could be published into a
single book, that would also be great, but then you'd have to get
permission from all the many sources, to use their material. Some day,
this might happen, but even then, some individual would have to take-
on the massive job of assembling it all together. There's no getting
around that. Interesting analogy about coin collecting. Coins have intrinsic
investment value and their unknown personal histories are irrelevant to their value. Some militaria collectors amass 'stuff' and all they care about
is the dollar value and the question of original or not?
Investment collecting cares not for the historical significance of the items and it is a totally different mind set than what I've presented in this book.
You can see eye candy in a lot of SS books, but with the exception of Bender's series on the W-SS, the collector references have left-out any
historical background to the different units.
Some eye candy books have been available for pretty cheap, like the $10- bargain table book 'SS Regalia' by Robin Lumsden. Maybe that book would be rated higher than mine, because it contains 3 pages of Foreign Volunteer insignia?

I would if i could and i can't at the moment but soon i will be in a position to spend at least 50000$ and purchase some nice pieces of W-SS headgear, both cloth and helmets, insignia as well !
With all respect but you must admit that in these hard times of economic crises paying a single piece of headgear up to 12000 $ is not easy or not to mention W-SS helmets being sold as high as 20000$
Now if you wish to ask have i ever handled original W-SS headgear and insignia, yes i have , way before these forums and internet sites or internet in general i have owned original helmets, insignia and some headgear !
When i buy the new stuff i will post it here , no worries, soon now
