    Hi,

I watched "Defiance" several months ago, and thought it was Ok. Not a great war movie, but quite an interesting story.
Many members of this forum focus on details of uniform etc; but I feel they are missing the point - a movie is supposed to entertain and certainly not to be a documentary!
"Defiance" was certainly not a Hollywood blockbuster, but told the story of a group of people who refused to submit to Nazi butchery.
Weird to think that Daniel Craig is now James Bond!
If you want to watch a very good film, starring Daniel Craig; which is about war - and has a "documentary" feel I would advise everyone to watch "The Trench" which tells the story of a British Army unit in the last few days leading up to the battle of the Somme in WW1.
Uniforms correct, historically accurate; and excellent acting!
Just a shame that it ends in a fashion very similar to "Gallipoli" which starred Mel Gibson.
But, I imagine in WW1, many soldiers stories mostly ended that way - I strongly recommend "The Trench"!

    Best wishes.

    John

It was an interesting movie and it certainly got its intended ideas across. I am surprised that none of the uniform folks has pointed out how well the costumers outfitted the partizans. The Jews looked like civilians stuck in a bad situation and the Red Partizans looked like true Partizan soldiers with a proper mix of Soviet uniform, equipment and gear and locally aqquired weapons and clothes as well. Overall it would have been hard to show accurately the 'real' story of the brothers because they spent most of their time evading the fascist troops in the attempt to save lives. This would be slow in a movie. The battle at the end was hokey but no worse than many others.
It always amazes me that people point to SPR as a perfect movie. The costumes were cool and the first scene is one of the best ever done for setting the scene, but the script was pretty flawed and the storyline was obviously done by someone who had never met a real Ranger or frontline combat vet. It surely does no deserve a'10'.
