    Defiance movie

I got to see the new movie Defiance last night on a screener DVD. I must say, the locations were great but Valkerie was a much better movie by far! If you are looking to see German soldiers and stitch Nazi the uniforms or insignia, forget it. They show the Germans for the most part in very fast moving scenes that they could of had the German extras wearing jeans and hiking boots and you wouldn't know the difference. The Panzer at the end left a lot to be desired also. I guess I am spoiled since SPR and BOB... I give only a 5 out of 10.

I like SPR a lot also and watch it more then would be considered "normal", but the Tiger is real bad. Of course, better then the Tigers in Battle of the Bulge

While I enjoyed Valkyrie, I have to admit I was distracted looking at all the uniforms, etc., perhaps because the film lagged at times and had more the feel of a made for TV docu-drama.

Defiance, on the other hand, was an excellent movie....far better than Valkyrie from the standpoint of acting, production quality and a riveting storyline that is so intense it keeps your mind in the movie from the beginning. Daniel Craig is a hell of an actor....it's a shame his second Bond movie was so poorly produced, as that is the one more people are going to identify him with.

As far as the German uniforms in Defiance, well I think the general story and production were so strong that it doesn't really matter, as the Germans weren't the focal point of the film, unlike Valkyrie. I will own both movies on DVD, but I'll watch them for different reasons.

I thought it was very realistic with very good acting and not alot of hollywood embelishment to the story. Which is a relief. I could of used a little more action, but hey that how the real story goes. Out of ten, I would give it a 6.6. Valkyrie would get a 7.5 with me. Downfall and SPR are perfect 10s in my book.

i thought it was a very claustraphobic film...without it meaning to be...a little drawn out...without much going on..jewish theme of course..likened to Moses ..many many references to past films...come and see in particular....it told the story with a little too much 'righteous man' vibe....but cool overall...worth checking out like all movies are...i think it will melt away..k

Compared to Valkyrie, it was a crappy movie. But, it had a good story and certainly worth watching for the true story of it. The german uniforms and especially the tank at the end was very unrealistic, it reminded me too much of a reinactment battle. The uniforms were always pretty clean and the soldiers were poor actors, they looked very robotic.

The story was good, but the acting and wardrobe left a lot to be desired.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

                    Defiance

                    Hello,
My friends and I saw the film back in January, we did not care for it. The first 45 minutes of the film were much better than the last half. I thought Valkyrie was a better film all around.

I like Holocaust based films it all began when I watched the mini-series "Holocaust" in the 1970's. The film Defiance did not cut it for me. In my opinion there are much better films on Jewish defiance like the "The Pianist", "The Grey Zone" or the 1980's TV movie "Escape from Sobibor".

                    Regards,
                    Jody

I thought that both Craig and Schreiber were miscast and that the film itself, in general, was a disappointment. Perhaps we have come to expect greatness of films depicting the horrors of the Jewish plight during the Second World War.

I also watched it in January, i also didnt think much of it and the fictional mini tank battle at the end was the final straw really, Valkyrie i liked though, after just reading the story of General Olbricht i think he deserves more german streets named after him then Stauffenberg IMO, Sean

I am a little suprised that the posters thus far seem to be more interested in talking about other war based films, and in particular 'Valkyrie', and not 'Defiance' as a stand alone film in it's own right.

I watched the film for the first time yesterday, on DVD. I have to say I thought it was a very interesting story line, and overall acted very well indeed. Whilst not perfect, it was however entertaining in my book, and that what films are... a form of entertainment. It was not a documentary, it was 'based' on real events.

Enthusiasts and collectors with the level of knowledge that some have who frequent this forum, will always be able to find fault with uniforms, headgear, even haircuts (Saving Private Ryan and Downfall are no exception) come under scrutiny.

Bottom line is I enjoyed 'Defiance' when previously, I had thought I would not. An enjoyable film, but not up there with 'Das Boot' for me.

                              Just my 2p.

                              Regards Richard.
Always looking for Luftwaffe Kampfflieger related document groups. In particular anything to Kampfgeschwader 2.
