        Stauffenberg a coward?

If Stauufenberg was really brave he should have shot Hitler himself, insteading of leaving a bomb & running - thus precipitating a bloodbath for his cronies.

I may be wrong, but I would imagine all visitors to Hitler had to check their weapons at the gate and were searched for concealed weapons. Thus a hidden bomb in a suitcase was the method with some hope for success that was used to try and get at him.

How do you suppose he could have pulled that off? His right hand above the wrist, the little and ring fingers on his left hand, and left eye were removed. How on earth do you expect a man with one eye and only three out of ten fingers fire a weapon? It was a miracle in its own right that he managed to arm the bomb. Are you ignorant to the facts surrounding the plot or do you have an agenda?

Stauffenberg and his "cronies" likely had more courage in their left testicles than many of the SS-KZ "Uebermensch" (idolized by what seems like a never-ending stream of NAZI sympathizers) had in their entire line of pure Aryan blood.

The center key of the plot was in the "hands" of a crippled person. These guys were amateurs or what? Unfortunately even these d@mned rags are more efficient in Afghanistan or Irak.

I'd recommend Stauffenberg: A Family History, 1905-1944 by Peter Hoffman and Operation Valkyrie: The German Generals' Plot Against Hitler by Pierre Galante.

What an idiotic comment, illustrating a complete lack of knowledge of the circumstances surrounding the failed attempt to kill Hitler. Or, are you a Nazi sympathizer?

Please explain how someone suggesting how to efficiently asassinate:Hitler, by willing to be killed himself, is pro-Nazi? He also could have sat right next to the bomb, assuring that it would not be moved. The pro-Nazi charge against posters is BTW prohibited by WAF rules according to my understanding.

Is it just me, or does anyone think that the actor that played Albert Speer in Der Untergang would be a better choice for Stauffenberg?

Brian: you are correct. The calumnious accusation thrown at you by Robert S. was bad form and in violation of the rules, but it was your outrageous statement quoted above that set it off, especially among those who are well read on this subject. An explosive reaction was to be expected. All of us should avoid making provocative assertions unless we have a firm grasp of the facts first. Once you have read the authoritative literature on the Stauffenberg plot, you will quickly see what your detractors are talking about.

So, let's bring an end to the acrimony here and continue the discussion by following the prevailing rules.

                              Regards,
