I would rather see a movie about the successful assassins - the Czech squad that got Heydrich. The Lidice massacre that followed should have shown future plotters what they were up against.

There seems to be a belief that if the bomb had killed Hitler that the Nazi's would have lost power & the war would have been ended etc.
The Nazi party heirarchy were ruthless & i can't see Goebbels, Borman, Himmler, Goering being overthrown easily after Hitler was dead.
As one historian said if Hitler never existed & say Goering was leader of the Nazi party the Holocaust probably would not have happened, but the war would have still happened as what had shaped a lot of the nazi party leaders were the same experiences that drove Hitler.

Operation Valkyrie never had the opportunity to be fully implemented. If Hitler had died and the duplicitous Fromm allied himself with the conspirators, it might have just worked.

It is fascinating & we'll never know the answer, who knows, the army would have had to mutiny against the Nazis en masse i would have thought for it to have worked. Having said that, they were quite busy at the time & i'm sure even if the nazis were overthrown the Russians wouldn't have just stopped fighting.

Yeah, I don't think Papa Stalin would have cared much at that point.

              Haven't you seen 'Operation Daybreak'?

Thanks for the tip - I vaguely remember reading about that one in a movie catalog. For the reasons stated above - and the fact that it's a current Hollywood production - I don't expect much from the Tom Cruise effort. If it was a European film like "Downfall" - it might be worth seeing.
