    Hello folks,
Has anyone bought this book? Is it worth the investment?

    Hi Jody,
Sorry to say its not worth the money, it appears to be a self published book with poor printing quality and does not present anything new. More of the same historical background on the various awards presented in earlier works on the subject. It would be an ok buy if it costed 30.00. But as you know books are improving in this subject matter and this is not one of them.
I hate to bash anyones hard work, it's not easy to write and publish a book. If this book were published 15yrs ago it would have been a bible to collectors but this day and age it doesn't make the grade.
I haven't finished reading it yet but I found the L/14 coke bottle gold wound badge presented as original.
If I'm to harsh about the book please someone post their comments.

        Jody,
I think if the book was printed on the glossy stock used for the color photos it would be a book more worthy of the 95.00 price tag. Many of the early books like Littlejohn's Orders and Decorations and Ailsby's Combat Medals are difficult to find, this book would make good replacement for the beginner, although expensive.
It does have two intresting photos of the Ballon Observers Badge being worn but thats about it as far as something new.

I'm sure I can't reproduce them here, so you may have to drop the 95.00 to see them. Whats bad is the quality of the paper is no better than printer paper so the photos are really grainy. The author does attempt to enlarge the the details to show it is a Ballon Observer Badge. I'm not a photo expert but it does appear to be the Ballon Observer Badge.

PS if you order thru Amazon you can get the book for 75.00, or go direct to Caiman.com

I had posted a pic of the Balloon Badge wearer here: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...09#post2349309

and the author contacted me and told me to remove it after I pointed out it was clearly not original. Note his name.

He has been in contact with me and insists it is an original photo so the best that can be said is it is a difference of opinion.

A balloon observers badge on an identified infanterie leutnant (when it should be artillerie), photographed in 1941, 3 years before it was introduced. Not much else needs to be said really, opinions don't even come into it.

This is the first I have seen this thread. Is this a book about the authentic badges or the fantasy badges? I hear there is a cloth Star of the Grand Cross in it! Where do people find this crap, and HOW can one have the balls to publish such lies! For some schmuck to tell Don to pull some fake photo when his whole book is cobbled-together nonsense is outlandish! We might as well be debating the Brothers Grimm!

I think all the ammunition required is in the above paragraph. Nothing else can be added to that, I for one will never part with money for that knd of book.

                              Hi guys,

I just recently ran across this book on a website, but can't remember where I saw it now. On that site, they showed some sample pages, one just happened to be the page on the Close Combat Clasp. If I remember correctly, he showed some clear fakes and reproductions (In my opinion, ofcourse), specifically a cloth CCC that I can remember. By just viewing that one page, full of errors, I would not recommend this book or purchase it myself.

I thought I saw it on the "other" forum, so I just went over there (before reading this entire thread first). EVERY book over on that forum gets a bashing, so I was surprised to read that this book has gotten great reviews over there. Now, I come back here to read the other thread that is linked into this thread, and it turns out that the author of the "Awarded for Bravery" book is no other than Roger Honts himself. Now it all makes sense, with all the positive reviews on a that book.......
