Depends what awards you are after. Detlev's catalogue is specifically a "price" guide, however it does have some good pictures that you could use as reference. As well as a huge cross section of medals and badges.Originally posted by eastlandb1

I was considering this book as a Yuletide present for myself - is it worth the $100.00? I have a Forman's guide which I use a lot (another price guide), but there are gaps in both it and the rest of my library when it comes to 3rd Reich awards. Hi John, I would treat yourself to it. There is a lot of stuff in it which I had not even seen before, so I was very happy with my purchase. I think it beats the older Forman's book hands down.

At this point I will hold off. Please remember that Detlev’s book it is a price guide in the first place. Unfortunately it is impossible to find collectibles at printed by him prices anymore. Hi Robert, I can also agree with your comments. Any price guide is practically out of date as soon as it is printed. A sad fact about how prices are going.
Colour would have been great in the book, but I think the price issue came into play?

I understand that primarily it is a price guide, which as you rightly point out is out of date almost as soon as the ink is wet! Yes it is a price guide but still lots of good pics (BW) of lots of awards. The prices were way out on the day it hit the streets so don't think you have missed anything there.
