Hello. I Am Looking For A Good Reference Book On Awards. Delev's Really Looks Impresive Online. Do You Think It Would Be Good Or Another? Thanks, Robert

Depends what awards you are after. Detlev's catalogue is specifically a "price" guide, however it does have some good pictures that you could use as reference. As well as a huge cross section of medals and badges.

Some other WA members have written / released books on a variety of subjects:

I was considering this book as a Yuletide present for myself - is it worth the $100.00? I have a Forman's guide which I use a lot (another price guide), but there are gaps in both it and the rest of my library when it comes to 3rd Reich awards. Thanks for any help - a few scans (copyright permitting) would be useful.

Hi John, I would treat yourself to it. There is a lot of stuff in it which I had not even seen before, so I was very happy with my purchase. I think it beats the older Forman's book hands down.

        Cheers, Ade.

Thanks Ade - and a belated Happy Birthday , anyone else have it?

          John

PS Can anyone recommend a good book on 3rd Reich ribbonbars AND a good book on gorgets? I think I have seen one (for ribbonbars) with Rommel on the front? It may have covered 1870-1957?

At this point I will hold off. Please remember that Detlev’s book it is a price guide in the first place. Unfortunately it is impossible to find collectibles at printed by him prices anymore. Inflation is killing us. Just wait for the 3rd edition. I hope for the color pictures and better presentation.

Hi Robert, I can also agree with your comments. Any price guide is practically out of date as soon as it is printed. A sad fact about how prices are going.

Colour would have been great in the book, but I think the price issue came into play?

              Cheers, Ade.

I understand that primarily it is a price guide, which as you rightly point out is out of date almost as soon as the ink is wet! I want one just as a good quality pictorial reference of a wide range of original Third Reich awards. Any suggestions for ribbonbar/gorget references?

I have it and would say that it is worth the asking price John.

Same as Ade I was surprised how many goodies within I had never seen before.

Yes it is a price guide but still lots of good pics (BW) of lots of awards. The prices were way out on the day it hit the streets so don't think you have missed anything there.

If you like I could scan a few representative pages for you, let me know.

                  Cheers,
                  David.
At Rathau on the Aller, the CO of 5th Royal Tanks advanced on foot to take a cautious look into the town before his tanks moved in. He encountered one of his own officers, a huge Welshman named John Gwilliam who later captained his country's rugby team, 'carrying a small German soldier by the scruff of his neck, not unlike a cat with a mouse.' The Colonel said: 'Why not shoot him?' Gwilliam replied in his mighty Welsh voice: 'Oh no, sir. Much too small.'

                    Hi,

I just looked the post about Fred Heukemes book.
It look really great. A bit expensive but really great.
Some of you own this book about GAB and the new one about PAB ?

                    Cheers
                    Werner

Very kind of you David, I would appreciate that (or you can email me some photos if easier to wattoj67@hotmail.com). I was also thinking of getting it from the library (for a preview), what is the ISBN number please. Is there a colour 3rd edition coming out or is that wishful thinking!?
                      Thank you,

                      John

                            Hi Jeff,
This is very good comment. I'm finding this little disappointing. So many different manufacturers for PAB's and only one small picture of it...
I guess it is better for Frank!
