1/48 C-47 Skytrain

I saw a DC-3 at Dulles International Airport outside Washington DC, not too many years ago, taxiing. An airport staffer smiled and called it a taildragger. Pretty neat. Small aircraft compared to the big commercial jetliners. And somewhere in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia at a small airport 20 years ago there was a small fleet of them, operational.




This type of plane is one of those really timeless engeneering marvels, to these day a small number of these are still used as cargo planes by small companys, over here there was one in the polished aluminum look on the fuselage with a red stripe in the middle that looked amazing, if was used as intended but taken care with love by its crew and mechanics, it was sold to an european collector about a year ago, pitty since I loved to see at the cargo area at the airport.

I know what you mean!, over here we had about 3 of them which made regular cargo runs for several small companys, two of those where in natural metal finish...but one was a heavy faded white and if memory serve me well, you still could see the faded TWA letters on the fuselage! These are now long gone...one crashed in the coast...no fatalities...the other twos where purchased by collectors from Europe and USA.

These type of airplanes, transport/cargo are REALLY appreciated when they become VERY few and "exotic" in the minds of some, even as they had a superb record of service and operation. Is like a derelict but beautiful Constelation passenger aircraft that as a young man I frecuently saw at a local near the main airport "discarded depot" the beautiful lines of the plane, its size and imposing look always made me stop for a few minutes to look at it...and say..."only if I had the money to restore her"....she latter was aquired by a restoration team and move to mainland USA to be used as parts for another Constelation airframe restoration.

I did a kit of one of these many, many years ago. Mine was done up
in the "puff the magic dragon" Vietnam era gun ship style. Of coarse
mine was not finished out anywhere even close to the detail that this one is.

Finish the repaint and detail of the crew, will retake the photos, for some reason I can not upload the ones I took and have on file right now.

This model will FINALLY be on its way to its new home, THANK YOU Skipper G. for your patience and understanding in the delays, greatly appreciated.

Mike...THANK YOU for those amazing photos, spectacular display!!

Here are a couple of things I am working for the final display, a "crew jeep" still under construction and some paratroopers...not fully finished yet...but almost there.

Hope Skipper G. like the final product, he has been quite a patient person (as well as other members who have pending model commisions with me), and I appreciate that a LOT, to Skipper and all of you...a BIG THANK YOU!!....I am now almost full on track to finish all.
