What about the veterans of Holland, France, Poland, Romania, Italy , etc.

In light of the enormous amount of prejudice and bigotry Mr. Levingston had more than likely endured/witnessed in his life, I'm sure it is safe to say he was a hero in many different ways.

Yes I noticed that thread and did not wish to sidetrack it. The reverence we have for our grandparents can be understandably biased and sacred. I would hope that after witnessing the furnace of the Eastern front, that such veterans who survived had plenty of time to reflect upon what they volunteered for and the misery they caused. Those that did and were changed by it would be men to respect.
Mr L fought for the right side and helped create the freedom we enjoy, yet such freedom was probably denied him for decades even after he returned from the front.
