Let's not forget the German and Japanese veterans who also paid a equal or heavier price.

      Why on earth post that?

This is about a veteran from one of the major nations of the war. Your country.

What about the veterans of Holland, France, Poland, Romania, Italy , etc.

Although all vets should be respected your comment was hardly necessary. Most people do remember all nations but the opening post is not about them its specifically about Mr Levingston.

Thanks for saying what I was thinking. A strange post to be sure.

Might be that shoota401 is 16...full of good intention and unbridled enthusiasm, but just naive.

          Thanks for that link.

In light of the enormous amount of prejudice and bigotry Mr. Levingston had more than likely endured/witnessed in his life, I'm sure it is safe to say he was a hero in many different ways.

It's not the objects in our hobby that creep me out, it's some of the people.
I think it may be time to take a break.

                Cheers,

                Jamie.

It seems that there are plenty of nutters on here who seem to wish Hitler won the war. It always surprises me. "Thanks for his service" they will say when a waffen ss veteran dies, bonkers.

I agree 100%....as a matter of fact there is a thread about a SS man who just passed on the forum right now.I have yet to see one R.I.P Mr. Levingston and thanks for your service.

110 years old, what an age!
                        (He never married...maybe that's the secret? )

He must have had some rough times in the USA in the time there was no equality between races.
So big respect to him and for serving his country.

Yes I noticed that thread and did not wish to sidetrack it. The reverence we have for our grandparents can be understandably biased and sacred. I would hope that after witnessing the furnace of the Eastern front, that such veterans who survived had plenty of time to reflect upon what they volunteered for and the misery they caused. Those that did and were changed by it would be men to respect.
Mr L fought for the right side and helped create the freedom we enjoy, yet such freedom was probably denied him for decades even after he returned from the front.

Old soldier from the generation who fought to end Hitler's tyranny and for the right to make our country a better place for all. RIP
