Help with planning a trip to the 1940 Dinant and Sedan crossings

    Friends,

I am planning a trip to visit the places where the Germans crossed the Meuse in 1940 and would welcome any advice on locations that I should visit along and any other places of interest like museums, monuments etc.

I do have a copy of "Blitzkrieg in the west then and now" and whilst a superb book unfortunately many of the comparison photos date from the 1980's and no doubt there are many changes that have occurred over the years.

I plan to stay in the Dinant area and will have a car to help get around.

    Thanks in advance

    1. You should visit the Dinant Citadel.

    2. There also is a small museum about the meuse crossing in mai 40:

    Musée du souvenir Mai 1940
    Place des français
    5537 Haut-le-Wastia

But I guess it's not open until may

I3. f you have the time you really need to visit the "Fortress Eben Emael". That is a must see! And you definitely need to do the walk around on top of the fortress.

Check first if there are individual visits in the wintermonths.

The English version is not as extensive as the Dutch or French version

    Cheers

Thank you Jan for the mention of the Citadel and the museum I have added them to my itinerary.

My biggest thanks is for the mention of Eben Emael, I didn't realise it was so close to where I am staying so that visit has been added to the top of my list.

Thanks again for your help, much appreciated.

There are many other historic places and museums in easy reach, depends on your taste and timeframe: Waterloo, Bastogne, La Gleize, etc.

+1 but he asked for the River meuse crossing in 1940.

If you are interested in the "Unternehmen Wacht am Rhein" (Battle of the Bulge) there is way more to see.

          - Bastogne war museum (Mardasson)
          - Bastogne Ardennes 44 museum (Bras)
          - December 44 museum La Gleize
          - Baugnez 44 Historical center
          - Musée de la Bataille des Ardennes (La Roche)

Waterloo? Never heared about this place.

For dinner in Dinant go to "Chez Bouboule, le roi des moules". Very good food.

What do you mean? You can see the lion standing up the hill at Waterloo from Paris

                    Gents,

Appreciate the comments and especially the where to eat suggestions, much appreciated.

Apologies for the confusion, ideally I would like to keep this trip focused to the events in 1940.

When you are at the bridge just in front of the Citadel in Dinant there is a monument for Lt De Gaulle (the latter General De Gaulle). There also is a French cemetry and a French and German ossuary.

                      Enjoy your trip
