Help with planning a trip to the 1940 Dinant and Sedan crossings

Friends,

I am planning a trip to visit the places where the Germans crossed the Meuse in 1940 and would welcome any advice on locations that I should visit along and any other places of interest like museums, monuments etc.

I do have a copy of "Blitzkrieg in the west then and now" and whilst a superb book unfortunately many of the comparison photos date from the 1980's and no doubt there are many changes that have occurred over the years.

I plan to stay in the Dinant area and will have a car to help get around.

1. You should visit the Dinant Citadel.

2. There also is a small museum about the meuse crossing in mai 40:

Place des français
5537 Haut-le-Wastia

But I guess it's not open until may

I3. f you have the time you really need to visit the "Fortress Eben Emael". That is a must see! And you definitely need to do the walk around on top of the fortress.

Check first if there are individual visits in the wintermonths.

Thank you Jan for the mention of the Citadel and the museum I have added them to my itinerary.

My biggest thanks is for the mention of Eben Emael, I didn't realise it was so close to where I am staying so that visit has been added to the top of my list.

+1 but he asked for the River meuse crossing in 1940.

If you are interested in the "Unternehmen Wacht am Rhein" (Battle of the Bulge) there is way more to see.

- Bastogne Ardennes 44 museum (Bras)
- December 44 museum La Gleize
- Baugnez 44 Historical center
- Musée de la Bataille des Ardennes (La Roche)

When you are at the bridge just in front of the Citadel in Dinant there is a monument for Lt De Gaulle (the latter General De Gaulle). There also is a French cemetry and a French and German ossuary.

Even if you don't read a lot of french, many pictures and plans to spot places of interest in the sector.

I used my then and now book Battle of the Bulge and the pics was easy to find.
Once i was in the right area. Gran Sasso helped me alot with finding the the area would of been lost finding stuff without him. Thanks again Gran Sasso
