Track his family down and ask. They would think your a bit odd but might be able to put your mind at rest.

I am puzzled...you got the answers.
Grave time finished after 25 or 30 years...no renewal, grave terminated...that's it.
Typical answers ? I think the questions are typical...disgrace...very little respect....

A bit more "neutrality" would help before using such statements without knowing the background.

The government has nothing to do with any removal because of political reasons....who knows who Dietrich was........nobody takes care.

      Regards

I guess with Dietrich being a too distant relative or an undesirable one & the Hiag gone, no funding was available at the time. Seems a shame though.

Too remove graves is a pretty standard procedure. Also in Switzerland.
Nothing is forever, even not a grave.

If graves would be forever we would run out of space/ground for the living ones.

I hope you looked also for Haussers grave as it is the same grave yard.

He is still there but the actual site looks like a pathway & is used as such. For a man who fought in both world wars, was awarded the Knight's Cross this is a disgrace! For anyone interested I can email you the photos I took showing where he is.

                        Hausser's grave

It took a few hours to find the grave or whatever you would call it. I did not have the time to or inclination at that point to try to find something which may or may not be in a graveyard in Munich, according to the Find a Grave website.

Did they remove Hausser's marker as well? It was there about 5 years ago ...

Unfortunately, these markers do get removed for political reasons, not just at the expiration of the grave "lease." Witness the marker for Hitler's parents, and the broken marker for Horst Wessel's father, which formed part of the memorial for Horst himself. Rumor says Dietrich Eckart's marker in Berchtesgaden will be removed soon. Peiper's will probably be next. Then Rudel, and so on ...

I have visited Sepp's grave many time since the 1980's . Most of the visits were with veterans from the 1 Panzer Korps as they had their reunions near by . I have not been to the graveyard now for awhile and am saddened to hear that his grave marker has been removed . It was a large stone with his name on it .
The upkeep of the graves are down to the family and they must pay for this , if they stop paying then the marker is removed as was the case in Austria where Hitler's parents also had their name stone removed .
I am a little surprised that Sepp's family have stopped paying as his son attended some of the veteran meetings but I have no contact with him anymore and maybe he has passed away .
Not too far from Sepp's grave is also his adjutant's Hermann Weiser who also was a KC holder from the LAH . As a matter there are there are quite a few KC holders buried there .

                              Although true . . . strange idea to me, "recycling" gravesites . . .

Let's hope not, Geoff . . . I believe that is one of the most beautiful cemeteries I have ever visited - if that stone get's removed, it will certainly stick out like a sore thumb.

                                Peiper's family grave.

I visited the village of Schondorf am Ammersee to see this grave, in June of this year & was happy to see it still there. I think because it is a family grave this one is very safe.
