    Dietrich's grave at Ludwigsburg.

During my touring holiday in June I visited the Neuer Friedhof in Ludwigsberg. Dietrich is buried in plot 75 but there is no grave, a gardener showed us where it was & said the head stone along with all other traces were removed over a decade ago. He is still there but the actual site looks like a pathway & is used as such. For a man who fought in both world wars, was awarded the Knight's Cross this is a disgrace! For anyone interested I can email you the photos I took showing where he is.

The headstone was to big, so they had to cut it in half to move it...

Interesting thread with fotos of the burial:

I wonder why they did not replace it with a smaller stone ? I've seen the photos before. A lot of famous RKT's attended ! Tom

The grave was terminated, not made smaller to have more room - so no need for a smaller stone

When a grave is "terminated", is the body left in place? Just wondering as one of the posts, above, indicated that the body is (allegedly) still in place; just with all surface references to its location having been removed.

              Gravesite

I think people have gone off track a bit. There is no grave marker of any kind headstone or otherwise, it is just a patch of grass & mud. According to the gardener who witnessed the grave stone removal & the 2 people who work in the Friedhof office, he is still buried there.

Then I don't understand why "no" marked if he's still there. Don't they give a damn about their dead....Very little respect ??????????

I do not know about sad it made me angry. But as I stated I have 2 photos, 1 showing the 75 marker with the "Grave" & the other a close up of "Grave" let me know & I will email them. As for the doubters goto the Neuer Friedhof, Neckarstrasse 44, Ludwigsberg & ask the Friedhof staff yourself, their office is to the right of the main entrance.

As usual graves in Germany and many others countries are closed after some years (between 18 and 30 years, depending on the community) if not renewed by the family. So this is a normal process. After those years, depends on soil, there are no or little remains.
Stones removed, ready to take another body......
Seems that nobody in Dietrichs family wanted to renew the grave.
                      Regards
                      Christian

Graves are the responsibility of the family in most cases.

I expect most graves get forgotten after a couple of generations. Do I know where my great grandfather is resting? No.

                        Don't worry about it.

The Germans I met on my travels seemed to be more of the opinion that the gravesite was removed as a result of the far right parties in Germany & the risk of them developing the grave into a neo nazi shrine. If so seems a little over the top to me as it had been there for decades.

Although sepp was a flamboyant dresser, he was convicted of war crimes....even though the punishment was commuted early, you'll have to dig him up sometime and see if he has any of his awards or uniforms on him ....and that's what they always say, even about ordensburg, but it has not happened yet....good thing adolfs real grave was never found in S. america, or was it in Pa.?? , anyway....stalin was right ....you might go at night and use ghost detecting , and recording devices to see if he will leave you an EVP(but if so, it will be in german).
