    Why

Why should other countries other than Germany look after Nazi Monuments.

Doe's not Germany have it's own war grave/monument commission.

Britain pays and looks after her's on foreign soil as best as possible !

Simple ..... Write to the German government and complain.

I agree - but I think that the Germany of today would rather forget about such things.

          Crete ....

I think any invaded country should decide the fate of monuments erected by it's occupiers...Comparing this one to ancient monuments is unfair. I for one am sickened by Soviet monuments in Berlin, a city they raped and murdered in at will. Do I think it would be cool to go see this monument and absorb the history behind it? Sure, but that's my own selfish reason. It's up to the Greeks.

              You have a point there.
Keep in mind also that,Cretan Resistance members, men who really took part in the conflict first hand, soon after May 1945 when Germans left for good, decided unanimously to keep the monument, appreciating in their own way History Values.
It's also unfair to my mind comparing German Paras at Crete in 1941 to invading Soviets in Berlin in 1945.

Seems to me the monument stayed there all this time, it's established. If the locals wanted it gone the time for that was when the war ended.

So is the holocaust memorial - it is not the principle but the actual memorial itself, it's an eyesore, or is that the idea - a permanent blot on an otherwise beautiful city?

Is that really the best that they could come up with - a field full of oversize bricks? It is full of people playing hide and seek, jumping from one brick to another not to mention more unsavoury activities.

I can see the idea behind the Holocaust memorial though its hardly easy on the eye.
The soviet one is just plain ugly and offensive, should be removed or remodelled.
