    Private 9259 J. T. Erskine. 1st Btn. North Staffordshire Regiment. Killed Mesopotamia 18/04/1916.

    My ancestors. Your sacrifice is not forgotten lads.

              Hi TW. I don't know a great deal about their deaths unfortunately. I think looking at the timeframe that Uncle Tom Erskine was killed in the defence of Kut in Mesopotamia. Uncle Harry Dobson was killed in France about the time of the Ludendorff offensive which started 21st March 1918 centering on the Third Army. I do know thaat he'd been in France for about a week.

                    My Great Uncle, Sgt. Sid Thompson. He was killed flying as an air gunner on a Sunderland in 1944. For more about him see here:

                        Unfortuanatly, No one has really learnt anything from their sacrifices, I am not picking any one war going on now, just the fact that mankind is still butchering each other in the name of something or other

                          Come on lads lets keep this thread going as a mark of respect until rememberance Sunday it the least we can do. Here's a poem might not be 100% correct but its as i remember it. IN FLANDERS FIELD THE POPPIES BLOW. BETWEEN THE CROSSES, ROW BY ROW. THAT MARK OUR PLACE AND IN THE SKY THE LARKS STIIL DO BRAVELY FLY.
