I was sorry to hear that Henry passed away awhile back. May he rest in peace. I have read his memoirs and seen the film. No matter what his opinion and politics he was no idiot. You should be ashamed of yourself. Absolutely disrespectful and it saddened me to hear such keyboard bravado. How dare that brave and reflectful man have a opinion right or wrong. Rip Henry..

Quite, my apologies for getting side tracked. He did indeed have a remarkable life, I read his book many years ago, it was one of the first accounts that I read from the 'other side', and I found it illuminating. I'm honoured that he chose my country to settle in, regardless of his later beliefs.

Although I can't agree with the final punchline of the documentary, I found his WW2 personal experiences and point of view to be quite interesting. And I could see how his point of view via his own war experiences could develop into his final thoughts and beliefs. Right or wrong, I can respect it.

It is always so exciting to see that a documentary and even views of a solitary person can produce such diverted views on this forum. How different the perception of life and world politics is on the other side of the Atlantic.

              Invasions

I seem to recall Mettleman being wounded ,lying in the snow wondering how am I defending Germany when I am a 1000 km's from my own border ?He stated this started to change his minset after his own mortality was threatened and he took stock of his beliefs.
As for contemporary events GB/USA are in no position to point the finger at anyone , recent events in the Crimea only highlight our own hypocrisies
when it comes to moral outrages - ask the half a million dead of Iraq and for what ?

Hi, can anyone tell me what awards Henry Metelmann was awarded? I assume the EK2, Black wound, Krim shield and Panzer assault at least?

                cheers,
                Rick

You can say what you like - both invasions had no legal basis and that is a fact, end of. We are not comparing the Nazis with the US at all - just the legal (or in this case illegal) aspect of the invasion. Try taking your head out of your arse for a few seconds and you might- just might - see what I am talking about, although somehow I doubt it.

Sorry pal , but character is subjective,, and anyone who equates US ventures in Iraq to Nazi invasion of Russia is a idiot in my book...being a communist after witnessing Stalin and Mao is icing on the cake. have your opinion I'll DARE to have mine ..I live in free society not a communist State
Sigh...Birdie.....seems clear who is the idiot here. Show some respect imho.
