You, sir, are a bald-faced liar.

"Jackdawson1970" effectively built your Wiki page, altered the Wikipedia entry "Josef Mengele"...and made unwarranted negative entries on my own Wikipedia page. That's on the record.

I don't believe you, sir, not for one second. No publicist would be that stupid. You are morally and ethically bankrupt.

I didn't say I would NOT share my findings, but that I am not sharing them here, and yet. Why is that so hard not to understand?

As I said earlier, if I was "fooled" I will obviously be man enough to admit it, but I am just NOT going to be providing play-by-play fodder here, because I have OTHER things to consider. Obviously, I don't enjoy having my name dragged through the mud ... why would I stay conspicuously silent unless I had a GOOD REASON to do so. I can't be clearer enough.

      Hi Craig,

I don't do Witch hunts, it's not my thing.
I hope for your sake that what you've said is true, because Google makes mud stick like nothing else. I also hope, that while everybody's waiting for your big reveal, someone--- the forger doesn't take another persons hard earned cash.

I'm looking forward to see how this will conclude.

      Cheers,

      Jamie.

No matter how big this project will be and that we cannot possibly grasp the full extend of it -and even if it uncovers that Hitler made it with Mengele's passport to Argentina, I will not forget the very best quote I ever heard so far in this our hobby:

        "This is a self-authenticating artefact"

        Absolutely priceless!

I believe that this entire statement is self-authenticating

Primary research and credibilty for our hobby

To present a thesis for assessment purposes , verification and serious rigour has to be applied.Any endeavour ,albeit academic or commercial needs to apply such methodology.Failure to do so leads to what we have witnessed here, namely an embarassing shambles which only hurts and ridicules an already demeaned pastime. Those who label us as freaks and nazi lovers are clapping in glee ready to point the well worn finger of condemnation. For what ? I have recently handled original Italian Red Cross documents from 1947 from a daughter of a Waffen SS Ukranian immigrant to the UK ,so I have some idea-barely ! Would I care to venture expertise - certainly not , so I posted it and asked for opinions and reasoned assessment. How many Holy Grail hunters have tried this sensationalist nonsense in the past, the Hitler diaries being the obvious point of reference. Self serving promotion, for this is what is is , reduces the importance of keeping history alive and enlightening others as to the importance of the most titanic struggle in history 1939-45.Cheap photo shots and stomach churning claims are a ghastly indictment of what this hobby has become the unedifying pursuit of wealth for the few at the expense of the many.We collect because we love the subject. What baffles me above all is the fawning acolytes in the wings all too ready to defend the indefensible time after time. There is a serous stink in the hobby - what are we to do about it ? It truly saddens me having been involved in collecting since 2000.

Regards to all who feel the same

If you publicist is so fast on wiki-pedia you might want to put him in charge of booking your tables for the largest show in the world.... You might actually have some.

I like the idea of having a publicist take the fall. What is this person's/ firm's name so we can "research" and determine the credibility of "your" statements Craig, If someone had messed with my Wikipeda page, I'd have a legal team all over him like "flies on Gottlieb"

Along the way, I have owned some great pieces, made a lot of money, made many friends, but many enemies. Bruce Petrin, Brant Murphy ... people that newbies here won't ever know or remember.

Looking back more than 13 years, I can tell you having been on all sides, I believe a few apples have finally begun to spoil it for me. In my view forums started small (and manageable) but grew so large that effective FREE moderation became challenging. God bless the moderators who give their free time and do their best, but there is only so much one can do, and I understand that.

When a dealer like myself who has a solid record of selling THOUSANDS of authentic artifacts over more than a decade of full-time business, who has a rock-solid guarantee, (mixed in with a few items that were questioned by some, but NEVER ever sold to or retained by a collector) can be pushed around by a room filled with a small but loud contingent of bullies, and then be called out for being absent from the discussion for a few days (in this case, due to sickness and having just sold over 200 artifacts in one days) … the forum begins to resemble an elementary school playground. Nobody will ever remember the collector I tracked down about a "rounder" Knight's Cross years after they were proven questionable, in order to give a refund plus interest. They'll only remember the fiasco surrounding a Oakleaf that was deemed authentic by every expert, but called out by a few "forum Jockeys" as questionable.

I have asked myself this afternoon whether it’s worthwhile to continue to take the abuse, innuendo, anonymous bravado, “computer courage,” rudeness, and childish, misdirected wit (admittedly, amidst a bunch of good guys, most of whom are too busy to involve themselves with threads like this), or just bow out like just about EVERY full-time dealer (and many, but certainly not all, serious collectors) has. Well, I can honestly say, that when it’s a choice between a) spending extra quality time with my family, picking my son up from school without lingering feelings of anger and resentment, and enjoying life … while at the same time providing reliable service to the collector, or b) running back to the forum every 10 seconds to answer one of 20 bullies in the room, the choice is abundantly clear … I choose the former.

So, we are to believe that a publicist in the employ of CG actively attempted to sully the reputation of a competitor?

So you resign rather than face your "elementary school" "bullies". Righteous indignation triumphs.

                              Here's a farewell parting shot:

I demand an apology for the vandalism of my Wikipedia entry. And I demand a retraction of your insulting statement below. I've sold 45,000 lots over the past 25+ years, and 90% of them were "paper", so don't tell me I'm not qualified to render an opinion.

And the facts set forth here by others were obvious. YOU put the piece out there, YOU chose not to respond, and now you take your football and go home.

I had hoped you had better character (and business savvy). I am disappointed, but now, not entirely surprised.

Good luck in your future endeavors.

Wait a minute - how was Craig a "Lifetime Member" yesterday, and today is just a regular "schmoe" member? Is this his punishment?

And was his statement a resignation, or just another big "F U" to his peers and colleagues?

I understand that only the forum owner can make that change.

Craig, based on your statement, are you in or out? Just come clean.
