I have finaly finnished my book about the war on the French Riviera in 1944, after working on it for about 9 years and intervieweing hundreds of witnesses of the time.
I am now...... a bit bored, and so looking for a new similar project to work on before all our veterans pass on. It is not very well defined yet, but I would like to interview veterans of the war in North Africa, who were there before or during the El Alamein battle (but not after), and involved in land warfare, preferably infantry, armoured, engineers, and those involved directly at the front lines.
The veterans can be from any of the involved countries (All Commonwealth, German, Italian, French, etc), as long as they can communicate in either English, French or German; and as long as they have a good enaugh memory to be able to tell a few interesting stories. From experience I know anybody who was wounded or captured will remember those moments very well, so will make a good interviewee.
What I will do is conduct telephone interviews with these veterans, then use they stories in my future, yet ill defined, book.
So if any of you know any Alamein era veterans in Australia, the UK, south Africa, Germany, France, etc, I would be happy to be put in touch with them.
