We then went to St.Mere Eglise. A place I had wanted to visit since I first saw The Longest Day as n 8 year old.

Nice post Jonathan ! looks like it took some time.

I'm headed there in August and staying near Omaha Beach. Time will be limited to see it all - the family won't be as nuts for these things as me and interest will wane.

What would you suggest to see if there was only a couple days available and if one wanted to focus mostly on German items ?

Thanks very much for all these photos, I'm starting my research for the visit and have 6 months to plan. . . this thread is alot of help - Jesse

                              Hi Jesse

Sorry for the late reply but I havn't logged in here for a while. I went for 12 days basing myself in Caen for the British Beaches and in Bayeux for the American ones. I bought the Battlefield Guide by Major Holt and planned around that. A hire care is essential. I went for the full whack of all 5 beaches and several locations inland. As for the German stuff the small Museum in St Marie du Mont is a MUST. Likewise the Grand Bunker Museum in Ouisterham. Also take in the Radar site at Douvres and the Maisy and Longues sur Mer batteries. Normandy in itself is beautiful. Bayeux is a small but picturesque town, the Cathedral is a must especially at night, and if you have the time travel inland to Beuvron en Auge. Great Calvados and great scenery. You must also visit some of the cemeteries (the German one in in La Cambe).

                              Jonathan
