Luftwaffe M40 single decal by Jacob Caputo

Just aquired this Luftwaffe M40 from Jacob. It's an SE maker with the darker textured blue-grey typical of SE (and ET) helmets (Q's are often the lighter grey-blue as I understand it).
I have a 1st pattern SS cover coming for it - Hermann Goering Division 1942/ 43 anyone!!!

'Plain Jane' M42

Hi Sean, I think it looks much improved after Jacob has done his thing! I think the 'Plain Jane' M42 helmet has a real minimalist appeal and is so versatile. Late war Heer, SS, perhaps Luftwaffe too. As I understand it Luftwaffe blue-grey was discontinued shortly after the decals were dropped in August 1943 and a very few non-decal blue-grey helmets were produced after that. Presumably the Luftwaffe had stocks which delayed things for a while but I believe eventually 'universal issue' field-grey M42's were issued to the Luftwaffe before the war's end.

A couple of pictures of my (SE) Hkp marked M42 with the typical extra heavy texture found on this manufacturer's helmets. The Lot number 5835 puts it at Oct/ Nov 1944. Like a lot of late war helmets it has imperfections that would not have passed the inspectors earlier in the war (a little 'bubbling' in the inside of the dome) and in fact no inspector's stamp in the dome, another typical SE/ Hkp trait.

Splinter A helmet cover by SMW

Bought this recently - SMW cover sold by "At The Front". Love SMW quality, plus ATF's service is great. I like that Splinter covers can be used for Heer, but also Luftwaffe Field Divsions/ HG etc.

The quality is ok - but the camo pattern is not correct - the tan and the brown colours are swapped...

Hi Jonni,
well spotted! ATF and SMW admit this, and they are cheaper as a result. According to both (neither are cammo novices) this happened during the war too. I can't verify this, but would be interested in any opinions from Splinter experts!

Luftwaffe M43 cap from ATF

Hi all, picked this up from ATF recently (from the 'Texled' range). Stepped back a little when I saw the straight stitching around the trapezoid but looking on the Luftwaffe M43 thread here on WAF this is all good! Always learning.... **(Colour is more accurate in the top picture)

ATF's info FYI - "Luftwaffe version of the M43 Einheitsfeldmütze. Patterned directly from a dis-assembled WWII cap, these fit, form and look just like the originals. All the small details are duplicated: bonded cardboard visor stiffener (not plastic), binding tape under the scallop seam, ear muff loops, corded Reece buttoholes, gray or gray-blue cotton lining, 10cm peak, and machine sewn insignia. The field-blue 100% wool fabric is made in Germany. There is no material more accurate- or expensive. Assembled in USA."
