Bayeux was packed. Probably not that disimilar to fifty years previously. I've made a point of scanning many of these shots in monochrome for effect. I think they work really well.Comment

I forget this bloke's name. He's a Frenchman and a superb piper and was with the Gordon's contingent. The bloke in the HLI 'Tam' is also a Frenchman; he was totally HLI obsessed - right down to the tattoo of the regimental badge on his leg.Comment

... to this RAMC blokey on his treader! This is my favourite photo, as it depicts the attention to detail that this individual has gone to, in what (to some) would seem rather mundane subject matter. He really looks the part.Comment

What i do find interesting is that the individuals (and groups) by and large look superb in their recreations to the extent that they surpass by far big budget productions on the small and big screen.
All done with budget of a typical "man on the street".
Hope you have some photos of some free French commandos somewhere...

This is Omaha Beach. 7am on the 6th June - fifty years to the day. The weather was grey, cold and the sea was choppy. I think this has to be one of the best pics I took, as it represents so much. The guys in the GI uniforms added to the atmosphere - no talking, just the sound of the English Channel. Most of the ships are out of shot, but there were lots.Comment
