      Passing Of A Love One

      Peter,

Sorry to hear the passing of a love one. No matter in heaven or earth, he is still alive as long as you love and remember him. My father was a WW2 veteran of the 75th Inf Div and passed away five months ago. It is very hard and takes a long time to heal. I am just happy he live a good and prosperous life.

He along with his brother, my great-uncle, were the ones who had gotten me started in collecting militaria. When I was 15-years old back in 1983, the three of us were suppose to drive up from Detroit to Lansing, Michigan for a big military show and six inches of snow had fallen. I was terribly upset as I had saved several hundred dollars that I HAD to spend. My grandfather said, "clean the car off. We'll go." It took four hours to drive there instead of the normal two but we made it.

I bought a West German paratrooper helmet that day. When I sold a lot of my original collection to pay for my move to New York City 12 years ago I gave the helmet to my grandfather. It will go back on my shelf this week with my other helmets. The WWII German paratrooper helmet can gather dust in the closet for a while so I can make room.
