    WWII Vet Passing

<!--StartFragment -->My grandfather, Daniel Suciu, a veteran of the United States Army Air Corp. passed away this week. He had spent the Second World War serving with the B-26 Training Command.

He along with his brother, my great-uncle, were the ones who had gotten me started in collecting militaria. When I was 15-years old back in 1983, the three of us were suppose to drive up from Detroit to Lansing, Michigan for a big military show and six inches of snow had fallen. I was terribly upset as I had saved several hundred dollars that I HAD to spend. My grandfather said, "clean the car off. We'll go." It took four hours to drive there instead of the normal two but we made it.

I bought a West German paratrooper helmet that day. When I sold a lot of my original collection to pay for my move to New York City 12 years ago I gave the helmet to my grandfather. It will go back on my shelf this week with my other helmets. The WWII German paratrooper helmet can gather dust in the closet for a while so I can make room.

              Peter,

With my own father turning 80 next month I can only guess how you must feel. This is probably redundant but I thought this was appropriate if you can find the time to read it.

My condolences Peter and my sympathies to the rest of your family also.
It is difficult to realize the loss of a close loved one. The good times remembered, the hard times forgotten. You will always love your papa. I am sure he always loved you.
