I can only imagine how this place rocked whenever a mine was touched off. Back out to the light. A trench mortar position and looking back to the French lines.

And here is a heavy trench mortar position with base plate found nearby.

Now to the museum. It is small but very well stocked with period pieces and ground finds from the site. It has a large trench mortar like the one that would have been in that last position as well as a small one for the first position I showed.

As well as mining equipment and air handlers for the deeper digs. And some explosives that they found in a chamber, inert now.

                      Don,
A superb presentation that I'am sure few of us know about. Thanks!

Don, do you know if any of the mines the Germans planned to set off but didn't are still in place? I don't think it was here but I remember hearing about at least one place where a huge mine is still in place and (so far) undetonated.

Thanks guys. It is an amazing place.

Blinky, the mine you are thinking of is on the Somme. There were two that did not go off when fired. One detonated about 35 years ago due to a lightening strike I believe. The other one is just sitting there getting angry.
