Fallschirmjäger monument

Could this be the site?
One of the pictures from http://www.fallschirmjaeger-denkmal.de shows a neighboring building with big advertising boards on its roof. The same picture also shows an area at the side of the monuments approach path, with cars parked.

co ordinates are; 35 deg 30' N 23 deg 59' E

I think that I can speak as a fair viewer of over two hundred monuments when I say that the Eagle should be retored to the Crete memorial, very few monuments (none that I have seen) are extravagant, the men deserve at least a pile of rocks. In Germany there are very few monument sto the second world war that I have seen. We clearly know who the victors of the war are.

This monument is just outside Heraklelion. Could this be one of the drop zones?

No, this is to commemorate a plane-crash - the plane just missed the nearby airport of Heraklion.

I learned this story from local policemen in 1998, when I was working at Heraklion for 4 month.

IMO its funny they took the german diving eagle as the symbol for this monument.
