I just stumbled across this thread, rather belatedly, and wanted to congratulate you on your results.
Back in May, I shot both film and digital at an event. Most of my digital shots were technically better than the film shots, so much so that they didn't look vintage. Too perfect. Too well focused. Too much depth of field. I'm impressed that you've got your digital shots looking so "not digital".
If you do go the route of vintage cameras, keep in mind that there are plenty of non-farby options that are cheaper than Leica.
Landsknechte; I know how you feel about digital, I agree with all your observations.
The shots on the various threads I post have been a mixture of digital, regular film, 35mm, 2.25x2.25 and 2.25x3.25. I also shoot a lot of video, and then convert the video to still. I have given up carry any weapons, don't want to take the chance of missing any photo's.
