Actually, I noticed quite a bit of change going on in Munich. The former Sterneckerbrau is no longer a furniture shop - It is now an Apple store:

The area to the right of the Führerbau is being excavated and you can see what I believe are portions of the original foundation of what was to be the NSDAP Chancellery:

And of course, another shot of the site of the former Brown House:

                Sadly, that is correct.

Sometime between last summer and this fall, the walls and ceiling of the lower level of the Hofbräuhaus have been cleaned. In the process, all of the checkered swastika banners on the ceiling have been "modified" so that they now look like this:

Here’s a comparison shot taken last June to show what they used to look like:

If you look closely at the third shot (sorry for the crappy photo) you can see that at some point in time, someone actually covered up portions of the banners to make them look more like Swastikas - those covered portions have been removed (or perhaps painted over?)

                .
Sigh. I guess it was only a matter of time. As usual, I withhold what I really think about this. Thanks for the update Rob.

What a stupid and short-sighted erradication of German history.

I haven't been through Munich since I was stationed in Germany in the late 1980s. However, I used to drive through on the way to Garmisch on a regular basis and have photos (somewhere) showing what appears to be an SS eagle (minus swastika) in raised relief on a concrete slab to the entrance of some type of facility. This was visible from the autobahn and I snapped the photos while driving. I'll see if I can find them.

There were similar raised-relief Wehrmacht Adlers at the entrance to the US Army Nuernberg hospital. Also minus their swastikas but still flanking the entrance on concrete blocks.

                    Probably long gone by now?

To me, being able to tour a building or site as it was is far better than me standing in an open field using my imagination as to what it once looked like!

                            Documentation?

I had also heard the "Bavarian swastikas" were gone now, but didn't know they had just been altered - thanks for the pics.

But does anyone know FOR SURE - were the original flag/banner paintings actually supposed to represent the Hakenkreuz, or did they just end up that way? I've been told the original paintings considerably predated Hitler and the Nazis, and so were NOT Nazi swastikas, but I have never seen this in writing, or any DEFINITIVE research that proves one way or another. I'd like to see such!

This kinda of stuff should be preserved for future generations, its all part of history. History is always written by the winners.

Had the Germans won the war think how many allieds would have been tried and hung for war crimes instead of Germans. To really study history, you have to seem it from both sides
