    Japanese christians

were there any japanese soldiers who were christians. How were they treated by their superiors?

Yes there were Japanese Christians serving in the military during WW2. I can't tell you how they were treated though.
A very famous Japanese Christian was the actor Toshiro Mifune who enlisted in the Air Force and was attached to the Aerial Photography Unit for the duration of the war.

The army even had chaplains of different faiths, to include Emperor Worship. After the war, they got rid of the chaplaincy because of the close ties with the state.

I have read that about 3% of the Japanese population is Christian, mostly Catholic. The great majority are Buddhist-Shinto.
I know a few Japanese Christians, and with the exception of one or two who are sorta fundamentalist, they aren't much different than the majority of Japanese, who tend not to take religion very seriously compared to other cultures.

              Japanese Christians

I remember reading years ago about Mitsuo Fuchida (sp?), he was apparently the lead pilot at Pearl Harbor, he converted to Christianity after the war, when asked how he could be a Christian (since there were no churches), he replied that he had joined Christ, not a church. I have a good friend who is Japanese and a Christian. Even though the bible conveys to believers that they shouldn't be "unequally yoked", he had no problem marrying a buddhist. Chris....
