disney world it is definetly not, my girlfriend left the first part in tears when we went in the museum where all the hair and other personal belongings were on display,it really does hit home when you see it ,completely constructed for mass murder a factory of death,

i know you did not mean disney to be a jovial remark and neither did i ,i was agreeing with you,and i do not think people go there to get kicks or thrills, but go there as it was 1 of the places where humanity can be shown at its worst, and to make you see that it did happen, regards dave

                Hell on earth......

A place i would like to visit one day. I dont think the wife and kids would be too impressed, but maybe it would be a good thing for them.

Mind boggling, and very moving.........sacred ground, infected with evil in its blackest form. The landscape and buildings overshadow even the brightest of days with the overwhelming sadness that resides there. This is the feeling I get from seeing pictures, I can't imagine what it would be like to walk the grounds.......

I have been to Auschwitz and Dachau when I still lived in Germany (I was born and raised in Dresden, Germany and then moved to the US but I still keep my German citzenship). One of our close family friends was sent to Auschwitz I after the invasion of Poland and still have Nazi barcode on his arm today even though he tried to have it removed several times.

It makes me wonder how much of what the general public is told is the truth though. In pic 4 you say 3000 people were shot in this small space, yet if you think about it you would realise how silly it would be to go shooting people in a small space with brick walls surrounding the area. Imagine the rifle bullets richocheting off the walls and killing everybody in the area, not just the prisoners. Why not shoot them in an open area somewhere?

I might be going there soon too, I think it is an important place to visit, in general, not just when you have personal history there, but it might just open eyes and learn people about how mankind can be at its worst.

First I "followed the trail" from Westerbork to Belsen to Theresienstadt.
All made an impact, but I postponed this place for a while untill I will be up for it.

                          Auschwitz.

I was there last year and boy did it chuck it down ( August) , Polish rain is very wet and can penetrate like WD40 , it gets in everywhere.

Sscrooge do a quick search on the living history forum there are some photos of the camp taken by other members who have been there.
Always worth a look , I hope to get back there again soon.

hi brett, they shot the prisoners in front of that straw like thing with a small calibre pistol to the head and also if you see the pic that is on its side ,that was where they undressed before being took outside and shot, but they sometimes got shot while changing, well thats what the tour guide told us and there are all the flowers left at base of wall where the executions took plase so i think there is some truth to it, regards dave

You're right Dave, its made of straw and concrete to catch bullets.I took my kids there in December to learn about the Holocaust.I'm glad we went in the winter.I've been to Dachau and Mauthausen in the summer, the grass was green, birds singing, flowers blooming just like the pictures.Winter provided another demeanor to the Horrors. The whole place was covered in snow and very cold.I think we got a little more feel for the hardships endured there.
Krakow is definitely a place to visit.Beautiful city, good food, great hotels. If there in Dec.don't miss the Christmas market.Take a tour of the Krakow ghetto, you.ll be glad you did.Contact Jarden@jarden.pl ,they have all the tours you want.
