I thought that I would update this thread with new information. Now that I have returned back to work for GA State Parks, my supervisor has now given me the responsibility of maintaining the battlefield, and also to lead tours through the area. Allatoona Pass is now officially part of Red Top Mountain State Park. Both the park, and the battlefield are actually owned by the US Army Corps of Engineers, but the state has a lease on both properties.

In a month or so, we are in the process of putting up more interpretive signs, replacing the silver signs that are currently up. When this is done, I'll update this thread with more pictures. Currently, I'm trying to find more information on the Allatoona battle from both US and CS perspectives.

As promised, here are more pictures. Here is the newest monument that was dedicated just this past weekend. It is in honor of the Missisippi troops that fought at Allatoona.

            Hello Bob,

The artist who painted "Allatoona Pass" is Don Troiani. The original is on display at the Booth Western Art Museum in nearby Cartersville.

I thought it looked familiar. Don Troiani the best (in my opinion) of the Civil War artists. If anybody is looking for great Civil War or aviation art, my friend Willi has been selling his (and late wife's) limited-edition print collections. You can see them on www.assonetart.com (Joe and Nanette Biszko). Look under the consignment page.

Sorry for taking a cheap advertising shot but sometimes it's the only way to let collectors know that something they're looking for is available.

                  Allatoona Pass

                  Roy,
You did an excellent job of showing most of the battlefield. It's hard to imagine what it was like there in 64 without the lake there! I have been there numerous times, but have never made it when the ceremonies are being held.
I live on the south side in Cartersville. All of Emerson and probably soon, the Pass area will be bulldozed down to flat land for the developers! That will be the hardest part of preserving the areas. It's ashame that the Etowah River Western and Atlantic Bridge can't somehow be preserved and protected.
I am also a docent and volunteer at the Booth Museum.
Are you aware of the North West Georgia Civil War Roundtable? We established this in conjunction with the Booth Museum. Try to come to our next meeting. It will be the second Thursday in November, starting at 6:00 PM. at the Resource Center, No. 1 North Gilmer Street, which is right behind the Bartow History Center.
