65th Anniversary - Battle of Britain

I do not think that the weekend should pass without reference to those brave men of the RAF and our allies who fought and gave their lives in the Battle of Britain.:
    Britain (515)
    Australia (32 pilots)
    Barbados (1)
    Belgium (28)
    Canada (112)
    Czechoslovakia (88)
    France (13)
    Ireland (10)
    Jamaica (1)
Newfoundland (now a province of Canada) (1)
    New Zealand (127)
    Poland (145)
    Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) (3)
    South Africa (25)
    US (9)

    A fitting memorial I think.

Excellent. Now, how about the Luftwaffe crews who died?

Absolutely irrelevant here. By your logic, if I start a thread in memoriam of the Warsaw ghetto uprising, I also have to honor the German soldiers who died crushing the uprising?

I agree Vadim, it is not relevant in this case. The RAF in the BoB made a huge contribution to us winning the war, without them Britain would have been lost.

I am all for remembering the dead of all sides in the conflict. But please keep the the thread on track.

            Cheers, Ade.

Hi Rexmundi, can you please add the Dutch losses to this thread if they have been missed off?

                Cheers, Ade.

I might have spoken to early here. The figures I remembered where Dutch Fighters flying with the RAF in the pacific. Not Battle of Britain.

No worries, I seem to think there were Dutch pilots flying in the BoB? But I was unsure about any losses.

                    Cheers, Ade.

Well I think Luftwaffe crews would be worth a mention-well even in the brilliant film (which I still have the programme for) all crew losses are listed, so no its not irrelevant.

This is a thread that I posted as a memorial to the British and our Allies ( I apologise if I have missed countries out - blame the BBC!) who died in the Battle of Britain - not to the Luftwaffe, depite the fact that many of their young men also sadly lost their lives. If you have an issue with this I suggest that you start an alternative thread.

                        Thank you,

                        John
