    Hi Geoff,

I arrived on 10 July in Bischofswiesen and till 12 July the weather was terrible, 13 July till 15 July the day I went back to Holland the weather was good, 30 degrees. So 50% of the time I was there the weather was bad/good. On Wednesday I visited the Kehlsteinhaus by mountain bike, that evening there was a Keklsteinabend (evening). People were dressed up for a nice evening in Hitler teahouse with a dinner and live Bavaria music. It was a bit foggy that evening, but you could see Salzburg and with the nice music in the back it was really great. Thursday I went to the Kehlsteinhaus by bus. This time I could also see the 'Königsee' and the 'Watzmann'.

    Regards, Thomas

        Hi Guys,

Sorry for the late response! Been working on my seaplane rating in the mornings before slaving in the afternoons!

Geoff, thanks for the added info and also for the excellent site!!!

Thomas, really nice photos, thanks for adding them. I guess you realize now how hard it is to get shots of the Nest without tourists!

It's been a year since I was there. We were lucky to have great weather.

The tearing down of the Platterhof was a crime IMO. Someone should be shot. Here's what it looks like now. A parking lot, souvenier shop and place to buy your tickets for the bus trip up to the Eagle's Nest.
You can see the K-haus on top of the hill.

The road to the top is actually on the backside of the mountain.

If you're afraid of heights you might have a problem as much of the road is built into a cliff.

The bus drivers were drinking and speeding... might be best to close your eyes until we get there.

The bus brings you to a parking lot below the Nest. Bormann had a tunnel built that led to an elevator. 124 meters into the rock and 124 meters up to the top. All of this still there and in use.

Still on the southside (backside) of the mountain, the views include the Konigsee.

Here we are on the northside now, pulling into the upper parking lot. The famous view is visible now.

Looking over the side and to the Northeast, you can see the footpath leading up.

Entrance to the tunnel. On a nice summer day, it's tough to get shots without all the tourists. A few snuck in. They were promptly thrown off the hillside.

After throwing all the tourists over the side my arms were tired, but it was much easier to take photos...
