Great photos.
From the Obersalzburg did you continue walking up the path? There's a magnificent tall carved wooden cross a few hundred meters up from the tea room-cafe.
Unfortunately, when I last was there with my wife(1995) fog made it impossible to admire the view.
Bought some great pewter pieces across the town stream and up the hill.
Thanks for sharing this.

Me and my girlfriend did all the trip with public transportation. There are buses from the train-station in Berschtesgaden running every hour or so that goes to Obersalzberg or Königsee. You can do almost everything with public transportation. I guess there are less buses on Sunday that runs the city, but everything is possible with public transportation.

I traveled there by car from the UK (did 3000 miles in 2 weeks). You can book the Tuerken direct http://www.hotel-zum-tuerken.com/
I guess you can also log-on to the Intercontinental website and book direct with them if you prefer staying in this ugly thing on Goering Hill.
I think G.Walden (or his brother) does guided tours of the Obersalzberg.

Thanks. I spent a day there last year, but that was a tour from Munich. I don't drive so would need to be able to get about by bus train & foot.
I assume the Tuerken is fair distance out of the town? I could get a taxi to & from there each day.
Cheers

The Tuerken/the Obersalzberg are a few miles away from Berchtesgaden so you will need a bus or a taxi. Obviously Berchtesgaden has a railway station so I guess you can somehow get there by train. The nearest airport....Munich maybe but that's still a long way (1 1/2 hours by car at least). No idea if Salzburg has an airport..
Too far to walk from Berchtesgden centre or train station to the Turken ,you need to take the bus ,this card will cover it. The only bus it does not cover is the bus to the nest.
I stay in a very nice small and friendly gueshouse with a nice breakfast and very clean all over. Its high up and gives great views of the town and as its opposite the Krankenhouse [ Hospital] its easy to get to. Just first time get a taxi from the station it will only cost 7 or 8 Euros but then you know where it is. The town buses also run right past there , I would really recommend that place I have stayed there some 10 times at least. The owner is called Christine ,I will attach a photo of the house. Also I will put her e-mail up ,have to find it as I have a new PC ! She speaks perfect English, very helpfull and knows all you need to see. Last time I went was last year, think then it was 26 euro a night probably 30 now, I'll find out.

You can get a train from Salzburg also but that takes about 90 minutes but its a lovely route up through the mountains. If you get to Salzburg fairly late you have to get the train, the last bus is about 8pm back to Berchtesgaden. Both ways are not expensive. When you get to your destination bed and breakfast/hotel the proprietor wll give you a residents from kind of thing, with this you can buy a cheap 5 day bus pass ,buy it its great value and even counts for trips in to Salalburg by bus.You need to take the card in to the town and buy the card from the bus station /council offices.
