Interesting photos. From them your Opa must have served with the heavy truck column of the TK Division.

        Two questions.

How did your Opa serve with Sturmbannfuhrer Masarie? I ask as Masarie served with Aufklärungs-Abteilung TK.

Second, how did your Opa manage to get a release from the TK to Org Todt during 1944?

The series of photos marked Zilupe are very interesting. Your Grandad marked it as being in Lithuania when in fact it's in Latvia. I guess the rapid advance up through these countries in 41 had something to do with the confusion.

I'm truly amazed that a guy aged in his 40's and in the Totenkopf during most of the war was able to make it through all the mud and blood and still go on until he was 86! He must have been one tough human being.

Please post more photos when you have the time. It's a fascinating photo album.

                Hello Edward.,

My Grandpa was a driver in the 2. light truck column of the TK Division.
Arzelino Masarie was the platoon leader of the 3. column in the year 1940. Later it was then in the Aufklärungs-Abteilung TK.

Grandpa was a building engineer. It was the construction supervisor of the NPEA school Ballenstedt in 1938 to 1939 (Documented in 5 photo albums).

My Grandpa was a good building engineer and built after Totenkopf from 1943 to 1945 in Leitmeritz, Building project pseudonym Richard I.

Tiefgarage, your English is very good. Thank you for answering the questions.

Interesting that your Opa was a trained building engineer and instead sent for duty with light trucks! A crazy assignment judging from his background. His engineering skills would explain why he was eventually sent to the Org Todt in 1944.

Was your Opa a reserve member of the Allg. SS? This may explain why he was sent to Div TK at his age in 1940.

very interesting history. Not many at all came out from the war, the east and then when they are in the SS and then specially in the 3rd Div. There would´t be a grandpa when the Russians would got him or brought him in a POW.

                            vielen Dank!
