                    The main bridges over the Meuse River in the city of Maastricht have been destroyed by some Dutch units. A heavy pontoon bridge is constructed by German pioneers and the battalion marches into Belgium. / An antiquated Renault FT dating back to World War 1 and a Hotchkiss tank have been abandoned by the enemy.

                            (25.5.40) After the Battle of Arras, the battalion enters the city to serve as an occupation force.

                            "The Battle of Arras (21.5.40) was an Allied counterattack against the flank of the German army, which took place near the town of Arras, in north-eastern France. The German forces were pushing northwards towards the channel coast, in order to entrap the Allied Forces that were advancing East into Belgium. The counterattack at Arras was an Allied attempt to cut through the German spearhead and frustrate the German advance. Although the Allies initially made gains, they were repulsed by German forces and forced to withdraw to avoid encirclement. The attack made the German commanders nervous, and it may have been one of the factors for the surprise German halt on May 24th that gave the British Expeditionary Force the slimmest of opportunities to begin evacuation from Dunkirk.”
