    I've always liked these Ikea display cases. Thanks for the links!

    I'm also surprised that the prices have come down. I remember them being considerably more expensive not so long ago.

    Although I like the plain glass type (without the black structure) better, I also much prefer a type that locks. It would be nice if they'd make an all glass type that locks, as well.

    To me, the black borders around the more expensive case only serve as a distraction and slight obstruction when viewing the items within. However, maybe that's just my ADHD mind overreacting yet again.

      i like the metal framed case just because its much more sturdy and has a lock. I do not like the flroal type design on the wrought iron plate at the bottom though.

      The all glass dispaly can be a bit wobbly but us all being collectors we would know how to handle it.....those around us however may try to man handle the dispaly case


      About the lighting fixture...I do not have it yet but was thinknig of getting it. I looked at it and it appears it pops into the top where the pre cut hole is. The cables though maybe be visible as the stick out the back of the light. When i get the light i'll post how it goes. Hope to go get it sometime this week.

        Got the light for the Detolf case installed. It doesnt come with the necessary scews so you will have to go out and buy them from a hardware store. It isnt hard to setup but you wont be able to see the positioning of screws and such all too well. It would be much better to attach the backplate to the top before you set up the shelf but most of you probably have your display case assembled.

        The wires sticking out of the back are a bit of an eye sore so you might want to try and hide them if it bothers you. I may try to cover it up with something, maybe have a model in front of it or something.

        Also the wires right now are just loose and visible so I may try to hide them along the frame of the display case if possible. The light isnt over powering or too bright. Its just perfect.

        Still waiting for my acrylic display stands from eBay...the box was crushed so the seller had to resend it last week. I would like to get started with the dispaly case as everything is just in temporary bubble wrap/riker mounts/original presentation case/acrylic box.

          JR. Remember a bright light can fade artifacts. High intense lighting is more suspect of ultraviolet rays. You put a lot of effort and money into this case. Consider using UV light filters. Shop around their are conservation companies that sell these. Those cardboard boxes are medal ribbon fade first. Paul

            Thanks for the tip Paul! I'll check out Talas for UV Light Filters.

            I might be putting the medal cases (like that 40yr faithful service case) somewhere else other then that glass display. Somewhere so its not exposed to the enviornment or light. I think previous discussions ahve said how those presentation cases can gas out so its not safe to have the medal inside with the box.

              JR, Yes that is correct. The boxes(cases) will out gas more in time. Best to keep them away from other items. Great to check out the uv filters. Well worth the effort. Paul

                They work just fine. I had bought one to store medals, daggers (in display stands), US Pilots and so on. Cheap as well. However, they are a bit cumbersome and take up quite a bit of room.

                I ad to build a sword case from scratch that houses various rows of 7 stand display stands. This one was a real pain.

                  I love these cases. They are awesome. Just came back from a show and filled the first case up. Presently I am going to go take my spare case from my sons room and begin to fill it with my overflow pieces. For the value one can get from these cases it is very worth owning one.

                      Have any of you tried moving one? Maybe up/down stairs or into another room?

                      Do you disassemble it then reassemble it in the new location?

                      Dare I ask how moving it intact turned out?

                        I've never tried moving one them yet. However, from what I know about their construction, I'd say you should be able to carefully move it assembled, if it's from room to room. A friend of mine did manage to do that with no problems. However, depending on how much help you have, going down stairs could involve the need for disassembly. I'm sure that would at least be the safest thing to do for that type of moving. I guess in the end, it's just all a matter of how much help you have and how resourceful and careful you are about moving it. In any case, CAREFUL is the operative word here. If you do successfully move it down steps assembled, let me know. I may need to do that sooner or later myself.
