Cheap Glass Display Case at Ikea

I just bought a cheap glass dispaly case from Ikea. Although i hate Ikea and how the store is organized....this glass case was only $77 CDN after taxes. Its over 5ft tall and has plenty of space. Its great for novice collectors as some glass display cases i saw were in the hudnred's. At Ikea they also had a glass dispaly case that was all metal/glass with a lock for $135.

Great buy if you dont want to spend alot on a display case. Putting it together wasnt that bad either.

Here's link to the one i bought:

Yes, That wall display case looks nice!
From a conservation stand point. That wood base could be a problem. In time the wood base will out gas, and attract moisture. No mater how the wood base is sealed, stained, or epoxed sealent on the wood. The moisture attraction, and out gassing will happen. I would have to advise not to display/store anything on the wood surface. Paul

I only have models (a british tank, P-40 Warhawk, P-51 Mustang, P-47 Thunderbolt, and a Focke-Wolf 190) for display on the platewood base. I hope to get the acrylic stands soon so I can put them inside with the medals.

Is that case totally sealed. If it is you may want to put in silica gel tray in there. Especially for your medals. Paul

No its not sealed. There are gaps between the door and the other glass panels.

The one i have doesnt lock but you can put a light in the top if you want. The link i psoted to the 2nd glass dispaly case does lock but no light. I wanted the 2nd glass display case but i jsut dont have the room for it as its maybe 5ft 8" in height.

My parents dont want me putting a dispaly case in the living room or other part of the house....and i wouldnt trust my items other then in my room. Wouldnt want anyone knocking it over.

A display case without a lock is an accident waiting to happen with a 2 year old running around the house.

Yes it is. At least in my house my parents dont come into my room and im the youngest person here and im 20yrs old. So hopefully nothing should happen. Just gotta make sure nobody opens the door to my room all the way back as my case is somewhat behind my bedroom door.

I had a look at the link to the Canadian Ikea , and couldnt believe the difference in price compared to Ikea Australia. For the Detolf cabinet - $69 in Canada, $179 in Australia, and our dollar's value's are much the same, bloody theives !

wow thats a pretty big price difference. I wonder why. You would think the prices would be relatively equal.

But im not a fan of Ikea just because of the stores layout....its like a rat maze....and also you have to go pick up the items yourself. This glass case was VERY heavy. It had to be at least 85 lbs and it had the glass inside the box. I was afraid of cracking the glass while handlnig it.

lol wow. It was a good workout then!

Got my Mylar sheets today to store documents of a WWII U.S. 39th Infantry Vet. Gonna have to find some sorta folder to store it or maybe just add it into the display case but in a way that it wont be bent or crushed by any items.
