Thanks for showing your collection. The British Waterloo sabre is great; is it the 1796 pattern?

          Best regards Mark

Thank you all for the kind replies. I got a real kick out of pulling these out of the corners for photographing. It was like reconnecting with some old friends.

101combatvet--If I can assume by your handle that you are indeed a combat vet, then I salute you, one combat vet to another! I'll snap a better pic of the gun collection later on for you and post it here.

Mark--Yes, you are spot on. The sabre is a 1796 Pattern Light Cavalry Sabre. They were primarily used by the British Light Dragoons. This one by the 16th Queens Light Dragoons. By the way, this unit only had a few men killed or wounded during the Waterloo Campaign--though the sword could easily have been lost some other way--nevertheless, it might not be that difficult to narrow down the possible identity of the original owner; though you'd never know for sure. I'm just amazed at how damn sharp this thing is after being lost on the battlefield and then all these years later with no subsequent sharpening. No ****, this thing will slice through a piece of paper--or my right thumb (glad I had a tetanus shot)--like a newly sharpened blade. Damn good steel. Touching the blade of this relic sword gives me a new appreciation for why foot soldiers were so keen to get the hell out of the way when some screaming mad bastard on a horse came charging along full tilt swinging an overgrown razor like this!

Robb--Yes, I think a "show your old swords" thread would be great fun. I'd like to see some of your random ones as well! I bet there are some gems in your old sword pile.

Luis, Greg, and Kevin--Thanks for the kind post. Aside from the Napoleonic Era named French General's sword here, these Waterloo relics are my favorites. The swords themselves aren't much to look at as far as relics go, but the aura and mystique surrounding that battle makes them something special to me.

By the way guys, the named French briquet that I posted belonged to a very long serving French NCO who also fought in the Waterloo Campaign. So it's almost certain that this blade also saw action at that famous engagement.

I think I covered all the replies, if I missed anyone or a specific question, I apologize. I'm really pleased that you gents have enjoyed looking at this stuff. If you want any further pics let me know. I'll get a shot of the guns posted soon for my 101combatvet buddy!

                Keep Well Friends,

                Z

                  101combatvet,

Sorry it took me nearly a month to get around to your request, but I've been busier than a retired person should.

Here are a couple of general pics of the portion of my firearms collection that has overflowed along the walls of my home office.

                  Enjoy,

                  Z

A few more. Long guns are a bugger to try and take pics of because of the dimensions.
