A new addition. Not quite War, but for those of you familiar with the Iron Man story it is related.

            Memories

Oh how nice to stumble on your thread, Gary!

Some of those you posted I read 1000 times in the early 70s.
            Especially "WIERD WAR"
            -not collecting comics anymore-
The Con (SD Comic Con) totally sucks now and has for yrs by which I mean actual comics are almost forgotten with the frikkin movie stars taking over.

The oddest thing now for me is that the SS Leithefts I collect are the same size and shape and my body's muscle memory for handling rare comics very carefully-yet quickly works for putting them into protective sleeves and out again to peruse works exactly the same for the SS leithefts.

I have sold the greater corpus of my Comics 10 yrs ago now-saving only a few favorites

I found I have still one issue of "Weird War"

There used to be a DC Submarine comic too but can't remember the name of it!

My favs were , The Losers, Sgt.Fury, Enemy Ace, Weird War [your #1 is killer!.

Somewhere I have some 4 color separations and color guides! Got to find them, you got me going!
Again, great collection thanks for posting!

"The Losers ," produced in very early 80's had the best art , in my opinion. Drawn written and created by Jack (The King) Kirby.

I shook Jack Kirby's hand at least 10 times at the 'Con -I was his biggest fan.
              Still am.

I know where your expendable wealth goes

Congrats on quite a desirable book(- and one that might retain value longer than a lot of other things)

                  Hi Michael,

                  Thanks for your comments.

I recall reading Weird War, Sgt Rock and Sgt Fury when I was young! Comics today are unrecognizable to what we had...way back then!

The Iron Man was a recent purchase and was done with a collecting/investment approach. It is by far the "least expensive" of the Silver Age hero-origin comic books. Time will tell.

I don't collect comics. But I just picked up the All quiet on the western front comic. It looked so cool. Just had to to buy it.

Classics Illustrated did a great job covering a lot of the "classic" war stories, as well as other novels. You could collect a lifetime just getting all of the various titles and variations of the Classic Illustrated series - there were hundreds of them.

These images really bring back the memories. A true art form. Can't remember what happened to mine. Thanks for posting.

2 more that I found when going through my "childhood" comic collection.

Both were published in WWII: the AAF one in 1944 & the USMC one in 1943. Many of the strips inside these books would NEVER fly in today's PC world.

In the world of comic collecting the war genre has a small but very loyal following. A section of the Overstreet Price Guide (the bible for prices in the comic community) devotes a short chapter to the genre each year. Unfortunately, the prices are not like their super hero brethren!
