    Yes, Teddy was a member of the 1st Sturmbann of the 53rd SS-Standarte in my city of birth "Heide" in Dithmarschen, state of Schleswig Holstein.

    Teddy also lived in Heide during the war-and post war years until moving to Norderstedt, north of Hamburg.

    I managed to aqcuire a group of photos a year ago from another member of the 53rd SS-Standarte who entered the then so-called "Stabswache Berlin" along with Teddy as one of the first 117 men. In one photo he clearly wears his "53"-collar tab.

      Hi John-

      Judging only from the rank Rudi Lehmann would need to be an SS-Hstuf at the time and the person next to Wisch holds the rank of Obersturmfhr.
      I found another shot of the same scene from a different angle, which is not a very nice one, but it helps us see the rank-tab clearly.

      Since "Rudi" was wounded in August 1941 and spent nearly 1 year away from his unit I also think it is unlikely that it's him.

      Isn't that an Adjudanten-Schnur (cord) for a whistle dangling outside the soldier's left breast pocket?

      ...and yes John, "Don Julio" (reposado) definitely rules...

        Erwin, I absolutely share your fascination by Kampfgruppe Peiper in the Ardennes. I actually did the road trip all the way to La Gleize and found it historically very rewarding and recommendable.


        Thanks also for your kind words on my very focused -almost monotone- collection!


        I would actually like to thank all the fellow forum members who have helped me to acquire Wisch's oakleaves document a couple of weeks back. It was a huge step forward towards reuniting that group! Without these helpful members I would have not noticed that someone was wanting to part from that gorgeous document...

            I'm 99,6% sure that it is Jupp Diefenthal and not Rudolf Lehmann.

                      One last one. The classic "Teddy"-shot as SS-Brigadeführer with autograph.

                      Note the twisted oakleaves-clip, fitted to the tunic neck-closure hook...

                      Next week I will be in Hamburg and will probably also drive by his former home to take a couple of photos for the postwar part of the collection.
